Can the Test be 'beat'?

Common Ways to "Beat" a Home Drug Test

All tests for drugs of abuse are only as good as the sample being tested.

The test will only give accurate results on urine samples. Bleach, cleaning supplies and other liquids may dilute the urine causing inaccurate results. Drinking large amounts of liquids may also dilute the urine so that the drug (if present) cannot be detected.

Advice to Parents

Be firm and observant when collecting the urine sample from your child. The following preparation steps will minimize the possibility of your child attempting to tamper with his or her urine sample.

Have your child wash his or her hands with soap and warm water prior to collecting their urine sample. Make certain the soap has been rinsed off and both hands are thoroughly dried.
Where possible, turn off the water to the bathroom sinks, toilets, and tubs ensuring these water sources are not used to dilute the sample. Bathroom sink water shut off handles are usually under the sink.

Limit access to substances that may interfere with obtaining a “clean” urine sample, such as vinegar, bleach, and other detergents commonly found in cabinets.

Check your child’s clothes and pockets to ensure they do not have anything that may be added to the urine sample.

Testing should be performed on a “fresh” warm urine sample. Testing should not be performed on chilled, refrigerated samples.
